Bookcovers

These two book covers I have completed for Christmas gifts. One is slow cloth., which I enjoyed doing. I took them to the Atasda meeting last weeekend and was asked why it was called slow cloth. My answer was that it took a long time but I wonder if there is another more sophisticated explanation. The other was sitting in the UFO pile just asking to be completed. Several laher of fabric with lots of stitch, burned back and other elements added. One more to finish, hopefully in the next few days.

Encaustic Wax and Stitch

An experiment with transferring encaustic wax to fabric, then adding in the detail with more wax and then some handstitching. I am quite pleased with this, nothing like patting yourself on the back. Next thing to work on is my slow cloth bookcovers to cover journals for Christmas presents. A litle like winter here today, certainly a fire tonight, maybe a wine or two to celebrate our 52nd wedding anniversary.

Hot Lips, Sweet Dreams

Thread painting 9x5 piece for the Mandjar Art Awards. This exhibition will open at the end of September at the Alcoa Performing Art Centre Gallery Mandurah. The background was a piece I had made during a Atasda demonstration/workshop with Linda Stokes using transfer paints.
My husband I have just returned from a week at my brother's farm, saw some very nice orchids and and a few other wildflowers as we travelled home. What a difference rain has made to the crops although short and there is a lot of feed around. Most dams on my brothers property. have water in them although not full. Many farmers are not running sheep and many have reduced their flock numbers because of last years drought.

Leaves

A hint I received at the last Atasda meeting to photocopy leaves from the garden for reference for thread painting. This is part of this mornings effort.
